Tips for Healthy Teeth

Tooth Decay is the destruction of tooth structure and can affect both the outer covering of the tooth which is the enamel and the dentin layer of the tooth.

http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/learn-more-about-tooth-decay-prevention/

Tooth decay mainly occurs when foods containing carbohydrates such as different types of breads, cereals, milk, soda, fruits, cakes, chocolates and candy are left on the teeth. Bacteria which live in the mouth break down these foods, turning them into acids. The bacteria, the acid, remains of food and saliva combine to form yellow coloured plaque, which clings to the teeth. The acids present in the plaque dissolve the enamel surface of the teeth, creating holes in the teeth called cavities.

  • Brush the teeth for at least two times a day and preferably with fluoride containing toothpaste. Try brushing after each meal and especially before going to bed.
  • Clean between the teeth daily with the help of dental floss.
  • Rinse daily with the help of a fluoride-containing mouthwash. Some rinses also contain antiseptic ingredients, which help to kill bacteria that cause plaque.
  • Try eating nutritious and balanced meals and limit junk food. Avoid carbohydrate-containing foods such as candy, pretzels, and chips, which remain on the tooth surface. If sticky foods are eaten, brush the teeth soon afterward.
  • Consult the dentist about dental sealants applied to the chewing surfaces of your back teeth to protect them from decay.
  • Drink fluoridated water. At least a pint of fluoridated water each day is needed to protect children from tooth decay.
  • Visit the dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exam.

At Dental Works Clinic, Bangalore they render customized treatment plans for their patients and educates their patients about daily oral hygiene practice.

Bad breath that won’t go away, Tender or bleeding gum, red and swollen gum, Painful while chewing food, Loose teeth, Sensitive teeth, Receding gums or longer appearing teeth. While experiencing these symptoms you can be sure that it is getting much worse and it is the time to consult a doctor and prepare for treatments.
People usually don’t show signs of gum disease until they are 30 or 40. Men are more likely to have gum disease rather than women. Although teenagers rarely develop periodontitis, they can develop gingivitis, the milder form of gum disease.

The main goal of treatment is to control the infection. The number and types of treatment will vary, depending on the present condition of the gum disease.
Medications may be used with treatment that includes scaling and root planning, but they cannot always take the place of surgery. Depending on how far the disease has progressed, the dentist may still suggest surgical treatment. The doctor may also suggest changing certain behaviors, such as quitting smoking, as it is a way to improve the outcome of treatment.
While periodontal disease is treatable, it is very much necessary to prevent recurrence: proceed with the daily plaque removal through brushing and flossing as a part of your oral hygiene, seek treatment to quit unhealthy habit such as smoking, and establish a regular schedule of clinical checkups.

Our mouth is an opening in body through which intake of our food takes place. Thus it needs to be hygienic. Taking a good care of your teeth, gums, jaws and thus overall mouth will help you avoid tooth decay, bad breath or other gums diseases.

Oral Health

The unhygienic condition of your mouth can also lead you to certain other harms like, pneumonia, heart disease, stroke, diabetes etc. Taking certain measures to keep your mouth neat and clean will help you maintain a strong and healthy teeth as old as you get.
Brushing and flossing your teeth will help you keep a good oral health.

Brushing your teeth:

Brushing which is regular and thorough helps you keep your teeth safe from decay and plague that may lead you to different gum diseases. As bacterial attack takes place just after the you eat, it is always ideal to brush soon after your meal. You should at least brush once in a day and is always good to brush before you go to bed.
Brushing helps oral health
Brushing is not a complicated practice, but there are both right and wrong ways of brushing. You should always brush at a 45 degree to your teeth. Care should be taken that not to scrub but to gently move the brush round, up and down, as brushing in a hard manner can recede the gums visibly. Chewing surface, cheek side and tongue surface, such even surfaces must be cleaned neatly. Never rush your brush along your teeth. You should take 2 to 3 minutes for brushing.

Flossing your teeth:

Flossing is considered as an essential part in keeping a healthy oral as it can clean the areas in your mouth where your brush cannot reach. This helps to avoid plaque in your mouth. Flossing can be done at anytime in a day. The most important thing is to do it. You just need a couple of minutes to floss. The best time to floss is morning and after your lunch.
Flossing helps oral health\

While flossing care should be taken that you're not flossing too hard as it may damage your tissues between the teeth. Either the flossing should not be too gentle so that the food between the teeth does not get removed properly. This should be done in a normal way suitable to clean out the food remnants within the teeth.

Practicing an oral practice of brushing and flossing at least once a day will keep you far from dental issue to a greater extend. Along with this you should also keep a practice of meeting your doctor at least twice a year so as to have a regular check up with your dental health, and if any underlying issues prevail, get it treated as soon as possible before they get worsened.
