Difference Between Metal And Ceramic Braces

Orthodontics helps in teeth straightening and proper alignment, repairing the crowded and crooked teeth, cross and deep bites and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw. With the speed at which technology progresses nowadays, it should come as no surprise that the field of orthodontics is much different than it was a decade ago. The days of frequent hospital visits, one-size-fits-all braces and painful adjustments are thankfully long behind us.

Today’s orthodontics offers a wide range of customized teeth-straightening options. People can now choose from different types of braces, including metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, self-ligating braces and clear aligners. The traditional metal braces still remain a popular option for kids because they are affordable and effective, and now they can be tailored to showcase your favourite color, express your sense of style or to show support for your school or team.
http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/learn-more-about-braces

Maybe you don’t want others to see you are having braces. Maybe you don’t want to make a statement with your braces.   There are a few other options available and the popular selection is ceramic braces. While not completely invisible, the ceramic braces go well with your tooth enamel, making them less visible. These are both good options for teens who may be embarrassed about having braces or adults wanting to maintain a professional image at the office.

When comparing this two different orthodontic treatment options currently available, there’s one big question that will be lingering in your mind: how are metal braces and ceramic braces different? While these two treatment options share many similarities, they also differ on quite a few things including procedure, aesthetics and cost.

What are metal braces?

Traditional metal braces are the most common and effective orthodontic treatments available. Metal braces have the advantage of usually being the least expensive type and they have been around for about 100 years. This fixed orthodontic treatment helps out to straighten teeth and correct bad bites using a series of stainless steel brackets, thin metal wires and subtle or brightly coloured bands. Although they have evolved over the time to be smaller and more effective, they are still the most noticeable.

Regardless of all the advances in orthodontics technology & the new braces & aligners products, traditional metal braces will always be an option. The major reason for this is due to the procedure of traditional metal braces as it can be used to treat certain severe or complex cases. The sturdy nature of metal braces means that they can execute more complex tooth movements, making them the popular choice in many cases.  If some of your teeth need to be moved quite far with the objective of giving you a straight & aligned smile, metal braces may be the only choice…at least the first choice. It is possible to start your orthodontics treatment using metal braces to complete complex tooth movements & then switch to other types to bring teeth into their final position. The metal braces may be still the right option for you if you don’t care about how visible your braces are. If you don’t mind people noticing, but you wouldn’t prefer metals, there are other options to consider.

What are ceramic braces?

As the name suggests, ceramic braces are same as the metal braces except that they’re made out of a translucent, clear or tooth-colored materials, and are designed to blend in better with your natural tooth color. Ceramic braces are a result of extensive dental research and their obvious advantage of ceramic braces is that they blend in with your tooth enamel.

When paired with clear brackets and frosted or white archwires, their appearance is almost invisible. They’re often referred to as clear braces and are a popular choice among self-conscious adults which offer the same reliability of standard metal braces, but with a more cosmetically pleasing look. Ceramic braces share a design with their metallic counterparts and they, in fact, function in the same way, while treatment times may be longer due to the extra friction in the system. However, they’re able to treat the same type of complex malocclusions and help correct bad bites.

Why get ceramic braces?

  • Ceramic braces are particularly popular among adults who are looking for a much more discreet and attractive treatment option especially if they use a colored archwire. Can you imagine a year of photos with metal in your mouth? Not picture-perfect! Right?
  • Ceramic braces are tougher than they sound. The application and design of ceramic braces have been refined to make sure maximum durability. However, it is significant that you find a dentist who offers the highest quality available.
  • For those who have a metal allergy but need the orthodontic treatment to complete complex tooth movements, then ceramic braces may be a better option.
  • Ceramic braces work faster than invisalign(another popular option for discrete alignment) while offering an almost parallel level of discretion.
  • Latest ceramic braces don’t stain easily. The original ceramic braces when the orthodontist first began to use ceramic braces in 1980 were made of plastic and could stain easily. Thanks to advances in technology, there are comfortable ceramic braces that are clear and less susceptible to discoloration.
  • Do you want to add a little bit more flair to their braces? With colored bands connecting their brackets, you can make the mouth gear look truly flamboyant. This’ll make the mouth pop and certainly leave an impression. Kids will like it. They can use colored bands to celebrate a holiday or coordinate with their outfit!
  • When your treatment is finished, ceramic braces are easy to remove than metal braces. There are technological advances for removing clear ceramic braces and less likely to leave demineralized tooth enamel behind.
  • Ceramic braces cause less discomfort and irritating than other options. In general, the experience with ceramic braces is a lot more bearable than their metal counterparts.
http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/learn-more-about-braces

Do ceramic braces cost the same as metal braces?

Traditional Metal braces come at a price which is really cheaper than the ceramics. Due to the varying cost of materials, ceramic braces generally cost more than their metal counterpart. Though, the differences between the two treatment options are not really that significant. You may have braces for anywhere between 6 months and two years which depend on the modifications required. The period of your treatment is determined on complexity rather than by the type of appliance used.

Closing thoughts:
Although being same in function and efficiency,  braces of both the category have pros and cons making them alternatives of each other, though it mostly depends upon one’s own discretion with which type of brace suits the best. Moreover, these are by no means the only treatment options available and if you want to make an informed decision about which will best suit your budget and needs it is best to make an appointment with an orthodontist.

How To Get The Smile You Wish By Lingual Braces

Today’s orthodontic treatments are a lot more diverse than you remember from last two decades. While metal braces are still very widespread, there are a lot more options than there used to be. One of the latest method of fitting teeth invisibly is lingual braces which are braces that are adhered to the back of your teeth (the tongue or lingual side) rather than the front of the teeth making them practically invisible. Lingual braces are a good way to get the dream smile without other people having to know about it.

http://whitefielddentist.com/lingual-braces-in-whitefield-bangalore

Who are the right candidates for lingual braces?

Regardless of all this positive side, the important fact is that is very similar in technique to traditional metal braces and lingual braces are not for everybody. But the question is, am I a good candidate for lingual braces?
A basic requirement for any orthodontic treatment particularly the lingual braces is there should not be any periodontal issues and having healthy periodontal tissues. The gingivae (gums) should be in good shape without any swelling or bleeding and oral hygiene should be good.

Can You Deal with Some Temporary Speech Effects?

For the first couple of weeks after getting lingual braces, it’s common for there to be some effects on your speech because the braces are on the inside of your teeth, it will feel a little strange at first. You may experience some speech difficulty like slight lisp, whistling sounds, slurring of certain words, or small mispronunciations until you get used to them. This is because your tongue is “retrained” to work around the braces as you create sounds. But don’t worry; your tongue, however, will eventually train itself to find a different place in the mouth.

Traditional braces and ceramic braces can have this effect, too.  The only difference is that these braces do not often make contact with the tongue, and so any obvious effects tend to head off much more quickly. Your best bet is to practice talking out loud or reading out until you feel like your speech is back to normal.

Is the Fitting Process for Lingual Braces Difficult?

It would seem that fitting braces to the back of a patient’s teeth would be a difficult task, but this is usually carried out in a single appointment. Nowadays, Orthodontists are trained to appropriately to administer lingual braces with sophisticated orthodontic technology.  Once you have had the initial assessment and decide to go ahead with the treatment, the dentist will book an appointment to have your records taken for x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth. Then the treatment plan will be designed after examining your records and you will now be ready to have the braces fitted. This is usually carried out in a single appointment.

Get Your Permanent Teeth With Dental Implants

Do you feel disgusted with missing one or more teeth? Don’t like to adopt traditional dentures and bridges. Then, the dental implant is the best option for your need. Besides filling the gap between the teeth, dental implants give a natural and aesthetic look; making you to smile, chew easily without any discomforts. The tooth root is replaced by the artificial titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone. It is permanent, durable and fixed. When you compare other tooth replacement treatments, dental implants are quite expensive but still long-lasting.

http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/what-is-implant-dentistry

What are the major benefits of dental implants?

  • Implant supported tooth/teeth do not require any grinding process so that the adjacent teeth will never be weakened.
  • It prevents bone loss that typically occurs at the bottom of the missing teeth. This bone preservation stabilizes the adjacent natural teeth and maintains the shape and size of the jaw.
  • Dental implant supported denture remains in the place firmly without any adhesives.
  • Implant supported crowns will fill the gap left by the missing tooth, prevent bacterial deposition that might lead to gum disease and infection
Dental implant fixing is usually performed under a local anesthesia. The patient will never feel any pain during the procedure. Once the fixation is over, the discomfort and pain will be last for few days that could be settled down with painkillers.

http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/what-is-implant-dentistry

What does happen after the dental implantation?

After placing the implants, the bone in jaw area has to grow and fuse to them that usually take a few months of time. A temporary denture is placed in the meantime and a healing cap will be placed on the implant to shield it.
As of how you care natural teeth, in the same way, you should care dental implants. Daily brushing, flossing, rinsing with mouthwash will keep the implants with oral hygiene. Regular dental check-ups shall be made to monitor the dental implants.

Dental Works Multispecialty Dental Clinic affords all kinds of dental treatments under one roof. The experts from here are well-renowned for dental implants surgery in Whitefield. Dental Works Clinic is prominent in the implant dentistry in Bangalore.

Save Your Tooth With A Root Canal

A root canal treatment is used to repair or save a tooth that is infected or badly decayed. In the root canal treatment, the nerve and pulp are removed, cleaned and sealed. If it is not treated on time then the surrounding tissue of the tooth will become infected and form abscesses.

A cavity present into the center of the tooth is described as the root canal. The pulp or pulp chamber is the soft area present in the root canal. The tooth nerve is within the root canal. A tooth nerve is not vitally important for tooth function and health after the tooth has emerged by the gum but it has sensory functions.

http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/learn-more-about-root-canals/

When a tooth’s nerve tissue or pulp is destroyed, it breaks down and allows bacteria to develop and multiply within the pulp chamber. An infection or abscessed tooth can develop by the bacteria or other decayed debris. An abscess is a pus filled pocket that develops at the end of the roots of the tooth. An abscess or infection in root canal can cause swelling, bone loss, or drainage problems into the gums.

Root Canal Treatment

Generally, the root canal treatment needs only one sitting but it may increase according to the requirement. In the procedure, an access hole will be drilled into the tooth. The pulp with the bacteria, the decayed nerve tissue and related debris are removed from the tooth.

The process of cleaning all these out is performed by using root canal files. A chain of these files of increase diameter is placed into the access hole to worked down the full length of the tooth to scrape and scrub the sides of the root canals. Once the tooth is fully cleaned, it is sealed. Sometimes it needs one week to seal the tooth. It is a painful process but highly successful. Many teeth fixed with a root canal can have lifelong durability.

Dental Works provides best root canal treatment in Bangalore. The efficient and well-experienced team here are committed to providing a best and perfect treatment method. The clinic provides world class facilities in a welcoming and comfortable environment.

Braces are the good solution for accurate these kind of teeth problems. Generally, these kinds of problems are occurring because of an injury, thumb sucking, and early or late tooth loss or by inheritance.

http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/learn-more-about-braces/

Braces are recommended to correct an abnormal bite and to straighten out the person’s smile. The treatment provides a healthier mouth and a nice looking smile. There are several problems associated with abnormal bite. They are

Braces realign the teeth by putting continues pressure.  Braces generally comprise of small brackets that are cemented to the patient’s teeth and connected by a wire. The wire can be tightened by the dentist to shift the teeth and jaw, periodically.

The color of the braces is similar to the tooth and can be of metal. The braces provide a constant, gentle force to the tooth and require only few adjustments. The treatment is recommended in the growing age of the child as abnormal bites are visible from the age of 7-8. The treatment plan is purely based on the patient’s situation and can take one to three years.

It is also very important to maintain a balanced diet for healthy teeth. While having braces, it is recommended to avoid sugary foods, chewing gum, popcorns, sticky food and oily food as these can develop a plaque around the brackets and could forever damage or stain the teeth. A good oral hygiene and little awareness to keep teeth align can makes a healthy and beautiful smile.

Tips for Healthy Teeth

Tooth Decay is the destruction of tooth structure and can affect both the outer covering of the tooth which is the enamel and the dentin layer of the tooth.

http://whitefielddentist.com/resources/learn-more-about-tooth-decay-prevention/

Tooth decay mainly occurs when foods containing carbohydrates such as different types of breads, cereals, milk, soda, fruits, cakes, chocolates and candy are left on the teeth. Bacteria which live in the mouth break down these foods, turning them into acids. The bacteria, the acid, remains of food and saliva combine to form yellow coloured plaque, which clings to the teeth. The acids present in the plaque dissolve the enamel surface of the teeth, creating holes in the teeth called cavities.

  • Brush the teeth for at least two times a day and preferably with fluoride containing toothpaste. Try brushing after each meal and especially before going to bed.
  • Clean between the teeth daily with the help of dental floss.
  • Rinse daily with the help of a fluoride-containing mouthwash. Some rinses also contain antiseptic ingredients, which help to kill bacteria that cause plaque.
  • Try eating nutritious and balanced meals and limit junk food. Avoid carbohydrate-containing foods such as candy, pretzels, and chips, which remain on the tooth surface. If sticky foods are eaten, brush the teeth soon afterward.
  • Consult the dentist about dental sealants applied to the chewing surfaces of your back teeth to protect them from decay.
  • Drink fluoridated water. At least a pint of fluoridated water each day is needed to protect children from tooth decay.
  • Visit the dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exam.

At Dental Works Clinic, Bangalore they render customized treatment plans for their patients and educates their patients about daily oral hygiene practice.

The main goal of treatment is to control the infection. The number and types of treatment will vary, depending on the present condition of the gum disease.
Medications may be used with treatment that includes scaling and root planning, but they cannot always take the place of surgery. Depending on how far the disease has progressed, the dentist may still suggest surgical treatment. The doctor may also suggest changing certain behaviors, such as quitting smoking, as it is a way to improve the outcome of treatment.
While periodontal disease is treatable, it is very much necessary to prevent recurrence: proceed with the daily plaque removal through brushing and flossing as a part of your oral hygiene, seek treatment to quit unhealthy habit such as smoking, and establish a regular schedule of clinical checkups.
